Each entry will be required to satisfy ALL conditions below: 1) Entry into the Australian National 2010 Science Video Competition is open to all* classes in all registered Australian schools. (There is NO ENTRY FEE) 2) Entrants must register for the competition prior to the registration closing date, Friday, 17 Septemberr 2010. (Click 'Enter now' above to register) 3) The video must be a “Science” based Video or Animation. Entries will be assessed on how effectively and creatively the brief has been carried out. The emphasis is on how students EXPLAIN the science in their video. 4) All footage used is to be original work carried out and filmed in 2010 and UPLOADED by Friday 22 October 2010. 5) All music used must be accompanied with the appropriate permissions and clearances. (music MUST be original or copyright-free) It is the entrant’s responsibility that the film does not infringe the rights, including but not limited to, copyright or intellectual property etc. of another person, group or entity. All music used is credited and acknowledged. 6) Entries are to be 60 seconds or less in duration in total, including credits. [max 1500 frames] Any entries exceeding this limit will be disallowed. ALL ENTRIES SHOULD HAVE A TITLE/CREDITS IDENTIFYING THE SCHOOL NAME. 7) All entrants must ensure that there are no corporate logos shown during the video, this includes students wearing and/or displaying corporate logos. 8) The judges’ decisions will be final and no correspondence will be entered into. The judges are an independent film-maker and a respected research scientist. Their brief is to judge the entries using two main criteria 1. How well is the science EXPLAINED? and 2. How well is the video made? They will be looking for good science, explained clearly, in a video which has good production values. If no video is submitted from any state or territory, OR if the submitted videos do not meet a minimum standard, they may issue a 'no winner declared' for that state or territory. The competition convenor plays no part in the judging process other than publicising the result and issuing the prizes to the winners nominated by the judges. 9) Prizes are not negotiable & non-transferable. The prize is $1000/state, comprising $400 Australian dollars cash prize for the winner of the Secondary School division and $200 for the ‘runner-up’ in the Secondary School division, and $400 Australian dollars cash prize for the winner of the Primary School division and $200 for the ‘runner-up’ in the Primary School division 10) The video/animation must be the student’s or students’ team’s own work.
11) Teachers may provide advice and training, but under the rules of this competition, teachers are not permitted to touch any hardware or equipment after the software is installed and filming has started. (For students aged 9 or less, the teacher may not touch the camera, but may assist the editing process) 12) Schools entering the competition agree to apply the normal school guidelines appropriate to supervision and behaviour of students during the production of their video. The entant indemnifies the competition organisers from any loss, injury or damage that may occur in the production of their video. 13) All entries will be uploaded to the official competition website, all entries will be acknowledged on receipt. Only .mov and .wmv and .avi formats will be accepted. Supervising teachers are sent a postal address to post entries to if low bandwidth limits their upload speed. 14) By entering the competition the entrants agree to abide by these terms and conditions. *no Australian resident students will be precluded from entering, incuding those from remote stations.
